surprise surprise.

so you start learning how to drive. obviously, you're hesitant at first. you don't know what to do, because driving apparently is more than stepping on the gas pedal and praying nothing is in your way. since the car is manual, it takes you a while to learn how to balance the clutch and the gas. the car stalls a few times, shudders once in a while, but finally, you're driving smoothly in the parking lot of Town Center. after a while, you're even able to sing to your favorite kelly clarkson (yeah girls rule!) song, no matter how corny it seems. you learn the basic parking styles, and then finally, you get on the freeway. it doesn't matter that a wrong turn brought you there, it doesn't matter that your palms are sweating so much you have little control over the wheel, it doesn't matter that all the cars are passing you by even if you're going (the amazing speed of) 40MPH, and of course, it doesn't really matter that your passenger is holding onto the hand brake for dear life. what matters is that you're still alive and able to control the car. and afte all that, what matters is that you actually got through it.

and now look at you. going 80MPH without a second thought, dancing to the music blasting from your speakers, talking on the phone with a friend, a little buzzed because you're on your way home from a night out in the city. you don't know exactly when you got your act together, you don't know exactly how you're pulling it off, but you are. you're doing it. and you knew that you could do it all along.

hmmm. life and it's surprises.

the other day, a bunch of us went to Cigar Bar in the city to give a little send off to Ben, my officemate who's about to take up his... masters? PhD? Something. Anyway, since i was driving home from the BART, i told myself that i would just have 2 drinks. and i did! well, 2 and a half coz the bartender gave me half a glass of sangria. the first drink i had wasn't strong, just right. maybe around, 10% buzz. but the second drink... i was supposed to order a gin martini, but i guess he heard me wrong and thought i wanted a gin on the rocks with a twist, because that's what he gave me. imagine. a full glass of pure gin. sheesh. but anyway. at least i didn't get drunk, i was just a little buzzed. and that didn't stop me from getting home safe and sound. ;p
